NOVICE FURY SINK THE LAKERS

On a night when you could fry bacon on the sidewalk, the only thing hotter than the weather, was the Novice Fury. The Fury sailed to a 7-0 win over the hometown Lakers2 at the Memorial Centre. The first period saw the Fury winning the battles, and forcing several turnovers and taking a commanding 5-0 lead.

Passing has been continuously improving game to game, and this was argueably their best positional game on the breakout and in the offensive end. Shot selection has been progressively improving, resulting in 12 of 18 shots being from inside the kill zone. At the other end, the defensive play allowed only 6 of the opponents 16 shots to be taken from inside the house. For the finishing touch on a complete team game, the Fury goalie played exceptional, and made some great saves to bail out the team when they got into some penalty trouble later in the game.

One more tune-up game on Thursday in Little Britain, then it's off for an exciting weekend tournament in Kingston.

Next up Peterborough 3 on Thursday (June 9).

ROLLER COASTER RIDE FOR MIDGET FURY

The lobby was air- conditioned, the playing area was hot and the Midget Fury came out ready to win this game, fury style. In the first period the Fury commanded the game with a 3 – 1 goal spread. The heat and a bit too much relaxation on the part of the boys showed as the defense seem to tire out, and become a little unhinged. This allowed Peterborough to get another goal in the second period, with the Fury matching it, taking the game to a 4-2 lead for the Fury still.

After taking to the corner for their pep talk, they returned back to the floor for the third period with Goalie Mac Langford returning to the net to conclude the 3rd Period. Peterborough got three nice shots, and brought the game to a 5 – 4 lead for Peterborough.
Any one that had nails at the beginning of the game, well, they were gone by now. In the last Minute of play in the third period, The Fury, got an opportunity to get the ball, and make a last minute shot that resulted in a goal.
This Putting the game at a 5 – 5 tie.

NOVICE FURY SHOOTS FOR THE STARS

With just one day since the first defeat of the season, it was back to the floor for another game against another worthy opponent. The theme for this game was to win every battle, and that's just how the Novice Fury started out. Battling hard for every loose ball, and collectively controlling their house, THIS was how the Fury play lacrosse. The passing was crisp and accurate, their catching was well executed, and their positional play was far superior to just one day prior. Toronto's goalie was sharp and made some very good saves early on. Their team fought back hard for the duration of the game and made for an exciting matchup. It was still only 1-0 almost half way through the game thanks to some fine goal tending at both ends including a dangerous Toronto breakaway. The Fury eventually did find their scoring touch, if only in a modest amount, and finished with a well deserved 4-1 victory.

Next up - Peterborough 2 on Tuesday at the Memorial Center.

INTERMEDIATE FURY 'B' CHAMPIONS AT LAKER CLASSIC

On June 2 the Midget Fury hosted the Toronto Stars. The first period opened with several shots by the Fury, but they couldn't beat the Stars goalie. Six minutes into the game the Stars opened the scoring. The Fury continued working hard and were finally rewarded when four minutes into the second period Zach Fleming scored on a great pass from Zack Bratina. Fury goalie, Patrick Stacey, shut the door on the Stars to give his team a chance. Five minutes later Luke Tamlin and Jacob Halsall assisted on a goal by Tom Weber to give the Fury their first lead of the game. The Fury defence didn't allow the Stars to get many shots and when a shot got through Fury goalies, Stacey and Mac Langford made the saves. The final score was 2-1 for the Fury.

This win brings the Fury Midget record to two wins and one loss. Next up, Peterborough 2 on Monday, June 6 in Peterborough.

NOVICE FURY NOT QUITE THERE VS UXBRIDGE ... YET

Let's call this game a learning experience. The Uxbridge team lived up to their scouting report, and immediately showed the Novice Fury they know how to play lacrosse. Their speed, and passing were quite good indeed, and the Fury were caught watching their impressive display, rather than playing the way they have been practicing. By the end of the first period, Uxbridge had jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Although the Fury never did get back to playing their true style of play, they did start playing somewhat better, and finished the game with a 7 - 2 loss. With this one in the books, the Novice boys will take their lessons, and use it to build as a stronger, better team down the road.

Next up - Toronto Stars tomorrow night (June 2nd). This one looks to be another tough game against another solid opponent.

This time, it's in our barn, and we will get back to playing the Fury style Lax!

INTERMEDIATE FURY & UXBRIDGE - A NATURAL RIVALRY IS BREWING

The Intermediate Fury came out firing against Uxbridge at the Little Britain arena hoping to mark their first win. A 2-1 score at the end of the first period for the Fury had them looking for that victory. The first goal for the Fury was by Devin Jordan assisted by Josh Nokes and Sam McGregor. McGregor from Tyler Smith netted the second goal.

The Fury were scoreless in the second period and even though Goalie O’Neill stopped shot after shot the Uxbridge squad squeaked ahead with a 3-2 lead at the end of the second.

Fast paced, end to end passing and numerous shots on net entertained the crowd during the third period. In the third, Tyler Smith got his first goal of the season with an assist from Ty Ellis. Jordan cashed in on his second goal of the game but that was not enough to keep up with the opponents and the Fury ended the game with a 6-4 loss against Uxbridge. Coach Millard was pleased with how well the boys played.

FINAL SCORE:
UXBRIDGE 6 - INTERMEDIATE FURY 4

Shots on Goal:
UXBRIDGE - 11-12-8 - 31
FURY - 12-9-17 - 38

NOVICE FURY TOO MUCH FOR PETERBOROUGH3

There was no cautious start in this one, at the Evenrude Centre in Peterborough. The Novice Fury jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, and never looked back. The boys used their speed and strength to their advantage to record an impressive shot differential of 30 - 6. With the only real trouble coming from some penalties late in the game, the boys had a solid outing, and were able to enjoy the 2 and 0 start to the season.

The final score was 15-1 for the Fury.

Next up - Uxbridge on June 1st. Scouting reports indicate this is a very good Uxbridge team and they will need to bring their "A" game that night.

INTERMEDIATE FURY BURNED AT THE BEACHES

By the time the first period had ended, the Beaches held an 8-0 lead on a barage of shots, outshooting the Fury 21-4. The second period did not fare much better for the Fury, being outshot 18-8 and outscored 2-0.

TORONTO BEACHES 10 - INTERMEDIATE FURY 0

BEACHES - 21-18-8 - 49

NOVICE FURY STARTS SEASON OFF RIGHT

With eager anticipation, and unknown expectations, the Novice Fury team kicked off their season playing the Clarington 3 team in front of the hometown fans in Little Britain. Although they got off to a cautious start, it didn't take long to find their stride.
When the dust had settled, the score was an impressive 9 - 0 for the home side.

The kids had all worked hard during practices, in the weeks leading up to this first game. They have been practicing all the key elements to the game, such as passing/catching, checking (and taking a check), as well as learning the responsibilities of their new positions and how to play a team game, at both ends of the floor. The team had some great coaching help for their goalie from a KLMLA seasoned veteran in Josh O'Neil, as well as a visit to the team by Toronto Rock player Stephen Hoar.

This is a great bunch of kids, and looks to be a very fun year as they build their skills, and gel as a team.

NOVICE FURY 9 - CLARINGTON(3) 0

Next up - Peterborough 3 next week, in their barn.

INTERMEDIATE FURY LOSE A TOUGH ONE

On Thursday, May 19th the crowd was entertained by an action packed end to end game of intermediate lacrosse.

The intermediate home opener was face paced, hard hitting and filled with awesome skilled lacrosse. Between the pipes, Josh O’Neill’s, quick reflexes kept the Markham Thunder to two goals in the first period and only singles during the second and third.

The Fury remained scoreless after the first but Jordan Cheetham put an end to that when he netted the first Fury goal, unassisted, near the end of the second period. Not wanting to keep the Fury score at 1, a minute later Devin Jordan scored his first goal of intermediate lacrosse, assisted by Ty Ellis. At the end of the second the Fury were closing in on the Markham team.

To tie the game in the third, Sam McGregor got an unassisted goal to add to his stats. The Fury came out strong in the third but let their opponents net one with 3:41 remaining in the game to result in a final score of Markham 4 and Kawartha 3.

Tonight was history in the making for the Kawartha Lakes Minor Lacrosse Association as it was the first time an intermediate rep team has stepped foot on the floor and they did an amazing job.

Good luck to our first intermediate rep team that consists of: Josh O’Neill, Devin Jordan, Matt Myrhen, Garrett Weller, Ty Ellis, Brad Gerrow, Evan Connolly, Jay Nugent, Andrew Nokes, Sam McGregor, Adam Rowe, Josh Nokes, Will Lane, Jordan Cheetham, Riley Coulson,Clint Hartford, Tyler Smith, Josh Gilmore, and Isaac McKnight.

MARKHAM 4 - INTERMEDIATE FURY 3
